DeLand, FL (November 16, 2020) – On Sunday evening, November 15, a woman was struck and killed in a fatal pedestrian accident in DeLand.

According to Volusia County officials, the accident took place on US-17 around the area of Williamsburg Road when a DeLand woman was attempting to cross the street. As she started to cross the street, she was struck by a passing vehicle.

Police confirmed that the 26-year old Deltona woman tried to swerve out of the way for the pedestrian. However, the front of her vehicle struck the woman.

Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident. The unidentified pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident continues.
