The accident, according to deputies with the Florida Highway Patrol, took place around noon. A 43-year-old man from Fort Lauderdale was allegedly driving south on I-95 when he and a passenger inside his vehicle started to argue back and forth with one another.

The man stopped his vehicle in the center median and got out, where he then started to cross northbound lanes of traffic on the highway. As he was crossing the median, the pedestrian was struck by an oncoming SUV.

According to police, the unnamed victim was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Nobody else was injured as a result of the accident.

All northbound lanes of traffic were closed down in the area for a period of time, with police diverting traffic onto US-1.

The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accident continues at this time.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
