Lake Mary, FL (August 29, 2020) – A worker was killed yesterday morning, August 28, in an accident that took place on a sidewalk in Lake Mary.
According to authorities, the accident took place around 10:40 a.m. at 200 Chiswell Place when a Seminole County worker was killed in a sidewalk collapse.
The worker was identified as a man from the environmental services department in Seminole County. At the time, he was working on a water main leak in a trench. The sidewalk collapsed on top of him while he was working, trapping him. Firefighters were immediately called to the scene of the accident so that they could remove water from the hole but they were unsuccessful in saving his life. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene.
When the firefighters were down in the hole, the hole became electrically charged and electrocuted the three firefighters. All three, who have not yet been identified, were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Seminole County officials continue their investigation into the accident.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
