Dundee, FL (November 15, 2020) – On Saturday morning, November 14, a man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Dundee.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the accident took place when 28-year-old Juan Perez Jimenez was driving a gray Chevy Silverado at a high rate of speed in the southbound lanes of US-27. He didn’t stop at a local red light, which was when his vehicle slammed into a Yamaha motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, who has since been identified as 58-year-old Juan Santos, was ejected from his motorcycle and landed about 180 feet away. The motorcycle also slammed into a nearby Nissan Versa but the driver was not harmed. Santos was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
After the collision, Jiminez fled the scene. He was later located at his home on Country World Drive West and admitted to police that he only fled because he didn’t have a driver’s license.
Jiminez has since been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and operating a vehicle without a license. He could be facing future charges as well.
The investigation into the collision continues.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
