Daytona Beach, FL – Daniel Ruddell Killed in Fatal Crash on S St

Daytona Beach, FL (August 31, 2020) – Police confirmed that a man was killed in a fatal crash that took place at an intersection in Daytona Beach when a suspect was fleeing from police.

The accident, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department, took place at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South Street. Police were attempting to pull over a vehicle that was being operated by 31-year-old Nyshon Bennett. Bennett initially ran through a stop sign and took off from police headed at a high speed.

When Bennett arrived at the intersection, he crossed through while he had a red light and struck a vehicle on the driver’s side. The driver in that vehicle was identified as 50-year-old Daniel J. Ruddell Jr. His vehicle then spun into a palm tree and struck a telephone pole.

Daniel J. Ruddell Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to paramedics and police. Bennett, on the other hand, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police are still working on determining charges.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
